Welcome back to our blog series! In part one, we discussed some of the effects that certain colors can have, specifically, white, brown, and red. Choosing these colors in your home can be great, but it’s also important to think about any messages that you may be sending or emotions that you may be accidentally bringing about.
In part two of our blog, we’ll discuss the potential effects that blue and orange can have on the psychology of color in our home.
Blue
Often described as a favorite color by many people, blue is always a wonderful choice when it comes to colors in your home. Blue is quite popular among all of the colors on the spectrum, in fact, blue is the favorite color of most men. It is often found in certain components of nature that we find beautiful like the ocean and the sky. It is usually associated with feelings of calmness and serenity, likely, because of its similarity to things that are tranquil.
Blue is described as secure, peaceful, tranquil, secure, and orderly. There are some interesting theories about this color’s connection to weight loss and appetite suppression. Known as the “least appetizing color,” some diet plans recommend that you eat your food off of a blue plate to help you avoid overeating. Blue could also work to lower your pulse rate and body temperature as well as make you more productive at work. It’s amazing what a little bit of color could do in your life! Here are some additional positive and negative connections to the color blue.
Positives:
- Non-Threatening
- Peaceful
- Secure
- Traditional
- Strong
Negatives:
- Sadness
- Aloofness
- Loneliness
- Weakness.
If you’re opting to paint and decorate using blue as a prominent color, then you are among the many people who love blue, and for good reason! Simply keep a few things in mind: make sure that you don’t over-blue and have enough balance with the use of other colors so that your rooms don’t start to feel weak or uncommitted.
Orange
This can be a very interesting and fun choice when you’re considering colors to paint your home. Orange is often associated with excitement, enthusiasm, and warmth. It is often a color that’s used to draw attention and is incorporated in warning labels, emergency signs, and traffic signals. Additionally, orange is a color that evokes excitement out of us and can make us feel energetic. For this reason, many sports teams use orange in the color of their uniforms. It’s also worth stating that culture can have a huge impact on how people see color. For instance, people in North American countries might look at the color orange and associate it with Halloween and prison uniforms, while people in other countries might associate orange with royalty and spirituality.
Positives:
- Refreshing
- Exciting
- Exhilarating
- Happiness Inducing
Negatives
- Dangerous
- Flashy
- Cheap
When decorating with orange, much like with some of the other colors, remember to keep your color balance in mind and don’t overdo it. Break up the large amounts of orange with cute grays, creams, or if you’re feeling it, light blues.
Choosing the right color for your home can be exhausting, especially if you’re worried that your colors will give off the wrong vibes. Just remember that if you’re comfortable and happy with your paint colors, chances are, guests will be happy too. However, as much as you want guests to be content in your abode, you have to make your home look and feel the way that you want it to. If you like a certain color and want to use it in your home, go for it!
